The Orphan Needs Coffee

After a less than stellar night’s sleep, I woke groggy and already exhausted. I tried to imagine myself working through the day cheerfully, but it was a challenge.

So, I just decided to treat myself to a coffee at the local coffee shop. I was going to tough it out, do the hustle, grind out the work, but I felt so weary. Instead, I seized the day, carpe diem, as they say, and it changed everything.

The days are hard enough, why be so hard on yourself. Find a little kindness and apply it to yourself. I love the second century philosopher, Epictetus; he says, “What if you were an orphan and you had to take care of you?” Today, I decided the orphan needed a walk to get coffee and a muffin. She is so much happier at work now.

Seriously. How are you treating yourself today? Try gentleness and compassion. The world needs them and so do you.
