Gifts

I must confess I have struggled to put into words the gifts I received on my five-week journey in Europe.

First, can you believe I am struggling with finding words?? Me? The one who posts novellas.

Second, no kidding! Who wouldn’t feel great traveling for five weeks across the pond??

Too true, but the challenge is how to live what I have experienced, how to articulate the shift and live into the gifts given me. I will start with the easiest one to visualize. A tree.

Those of you who have read my book know my history with the Mulberry Tree. It was no surprise that in the middle of Bulgaria there was a Mulberry Tree, staining the ground with her purple berries. I was a little shaken; if you know me at all, you will know why!

But there was also a Cherry Tree full of fruit. Here I was, speaking on my book, on Rejecting Fear, and I had to choose again. Would I choose the old thoughts, the old story, was this tree here to frighten me? No, the tree is a tree, and I chose each day to pick cherries and enjoy the moment, live in the day, find my strength and courage in the fruit of the life I am living now.

So, my first gift? Not one tree, but two.

The Cherry Tree, with all her fruit, is a reminder that every day holds free gifts. Every thought you think is free. Will you choose to think thoughts that lead you to a life of joy and peace and reject those that lead you to fear?

The Mulberry Tree? How is the reminder of a tough time in my life a gift? It is a witness to my life, and a sign of triumph. We all encounter challenges. I am a little steadier each time I face a Mulberry Tree now.
