Poppies and possibilities

I want to tell you that whatever is in your heart, whatever is planted deep within you- this will grow. You can be surprised or frustrated, but it is true. Look at the world around you…whatever is hidden eventually is revealed. So, what if we took note and decided to weed out whatever does not belong?

I am not saying this is easy work. Have you ever inherited a neglected garden, or maybe you have inherited someone else’s belongings? It can be messy. Life can be messy. We need to pull out weeds and worries, so we can create new possibilities.

Let ‘s consider how we can simplify the chaos within us.

There are really a few simple questions to ask ourselves:

  1. Is it good?

  2. Is it true?

  3. Is it lovely?

Of course, we can add a hundred other questions, but these apply across a wide spectrum: from raised beds to the boardroom.

Is it good? Okay, it is a judgement, good/bad. But there is value in quantifying situations.

Are my thoughts good? Kind, helpful, gentle? Are my decisions good? Wise, thoughtful, impactful? Is my business direction good? Relevant, profitable, effective? Are my relationships good? Uplifting, generous, deep?

Is it true?

Are my thoughts true? We make up stories because we can! We tell ourselves stories from the past that lead to self-limiting behaviors and attitudes. Watch that and weed it out of your life!

Are my beliefs true? I could get into so much trouble here, but let’s stay with beliefs about myself: I’m not enough. True? No. I’m not worthy. True? No. I’m not loved. True? No. I don’t have what it takes. True? No again. We take insecurities and turn them into reality. “Just stop it!” as Bob Newhart said in his famous video (look it up for a laugh if you haven’t seen it).

Is it lovely?

Are my thoughts lovely? Do they bring joy and hope and beauty to the world? Are my relationships lovely? I do not mean sappy; I mean strong and healthy like an oak tree. Is my business lovely? Admirable? Appealing? Fabulous?

Consider these three questions as you head out for vacation this Fourth of July. weekend. May the sacrifice others made to give us a free and lovely country fill us with gratitude and thankfulness..
