And Still They Sing

No matter what happens through the night, the sun rises. "Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning," Psalm 30:5. We must wake from a night far spent on injustice and unjust harm, to bring peace. But what do I do? Can I make a difference?

What if I join my small voice with that of the tiny swallow? Have you noticed how the birds refuse to stop singing? And the song and lament of my soul must be heard as well as every person's; it is a collective cry of undeniable sadness, grief, and inexplicable loss. But what if I build myself a nest of hope and faith and prayer? What if I cry out to the One who is, "close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit," Psalm 34:18. What if, in all of this, I simply take shelter and call out to One stronger and mightier than I? When I hold onto hope, especially in the darkness, others find a flicker of faith in me to light their path. I admit I'm wavering, the winds are blowing, but the flame of love is still burning and I believe in the power of love.

Do you? Love never fails, so bring it! Have faith and hold onto courage. Calm your anxious heart with the promise that nothing is impossible with God.

"Even the sparrow has found herself a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young- a place near your altar, O Lord, Almighty, my King and my God... Blessed are those whose strength is in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage."

Psalm 84:3, 5
